When the league agents finally catch up to Zu and her companions, Liam throws a tree in front of their vehicle so they could no longer keep up the group. Since Ruby had been hiding in the back of the van, Liam almost crashes when she reveals herself. Martin, another orange pulled from the same camp as Ruby, follows with them. Ruby is able to follow her to the van, and convinces Zu to let her hide in the back of the van before Liam and Chubs return.īecause the two Children's Leagues agents, Rob and Cate, wanted to keep Ruby in their possession, they chase after her. Ruby, understandably scared of the Children's Leagues agents since one had murdered two defenseless kids, runs after her. Fearing Ruby was a potential threat she ran away, taking coverage in Black Betty a twenty year old van that she had helped Liam and Chubs steal after the escape from Caledonia. Zu accidentally meets Ruby Daly, a sixteen year old orange girl who had just escaped from her own camp thanks to the Children's League in an old gas station. Both boys are blue and were two of the conspirators of breaking out of the camp. Seeing as she didn't have many choices she joins Liam and another boy Charles 'Chubs' Meriwether. When the Caledonia breakout happens, she is picked up Liam Stewart so she wouldn't be trampled by other people. Zu's cabin had lice and so they all had their heads shaved. Not much is known about her family, but she does have at least one aunt or uncle since she has a cousin, Hina, who survives IAAN and is also sent to Caledonia. At nine or ten years old, Zu was sent to a rehabilitation camp named Caledonia, after she accidentally short-circuited her dad’s car in the middle of a freeway.
